Five minutes with Hot Chelle Rae
12:00AM, Aug 16 2011
If you haven't already heard of Hot Chelle Rae you better start listening! They are the hottest new band of the, err, century, and we caught up with lead singer RK to find out all about their new single 'Tonight Tonight', what it's like having Chord Overstreet as family (*squeals*) and what these hotties look for in love.
Warning: you are now entering swoon-town.
Where did the name Hot Chelle Rae come from?
Our name comes from a crazy MySpace stalker. There was a girl pretending to be a model whose name was Chelle Rae that we would talk to and then we found out she was a fake! So after that whole scenario we thought Hot Chelle Rae would be a cool band name.
Your hit single 'Tonight Tonight' has taken off big time, what was it like hearing it on the radio for the first time?
It is absolutely surreal! You can actually watch us on YouTube hearing our song for the first time. We knew it was going to come on the radio so we went out to our car and video recorded us hearing our song being played. You can see how truly uncool we really are!
The video for 'Tonight Tonight' is basically one big party. Is that what life as a rock star is really like?
It can definitely be that way! We shot the video in Los Angeles and it featured a lot of our friends. We invited them all to the shoot so the day ended up being just one big party with our closest friends. It was the most memorable part of our lives!
And Chord Overstreet is in the video how did that come about?
Chord is Nash's little brother and he's been best friends with Jamie since they were we really young. He finished work on Glee and came over to the shoot and just basically jumped in and made it really fun!
Do you look at Chord as a celebrity?
No way! That dude is definitely not a celebrity to us and we're not celebrities to him. We will never be that way to one another. We're all family.
You guys are touring at the moment, what's it like being on the tour bus together?
It's as funny as you could ever imagine. Tones of pranks, tones of fun and jokes all the time. We can make any bad situation a funny situation.
Have you had any crazy fan encounters?
I've had a couple of bras thrown at me on stage. But the craziest thing that's happened so far is when a fan proposed to his girlfriend during one of our shows. It was so flattering!
Would you ever consider dating a fan?
If the circumstances were correct I think love has no boundaries.
What's your favourite quality in a girl?
My favourite quality in a girl has got to be intelligence!
What was high school like for you guys?
We went to high school for a few years but were mainly homeschooled.
Were you into music in school?
We were definitely into music from a young age. Before we started the band we were all doing solo stuff. I first met Nash while he was working in a music store and it kind of went from there. We started writing music together and then it just turned into a band which was a big surprise.
Has your success taken you by surprise?
Yes and no. It's crazy that our song is as popular that it's becoming. It's kind of awkward for us! But at the same time we started this for that reason. We're like slaves to [the music]!
Any plans to head to Australia?
Oh yeah! We've got plans in the works. Hopefully early next year. We're ready to hang!
FACE-OFF: Who do you think is the hottest rocker dude?
