Gigi Hadid has lost a MASSIVE chunk of her fan base after saying she thinks it’s time for Americans to support Donald Trump’s presidency and “give him a chance”.
In an interview with Associated Press following Trump’s election, the 21-year-old was asked for her thoughts on what had unfolded.
“Donald has won and he’s going to be the President and, you know, honestly, as a country we have to give him a chance because that’s what our country voted for and that’s what we accept as citizens in this country,” she said.
The model doesn't say who she voted for, but her response has angered some fans, who no doubt wanted her to share their anger that the openly racist, misogynistic Trump had been elected. Some took issue with the fact that Gigi showed support for Trump especially when he's been so anti-Islam - her father, and boyfriend Zayn Malik, are both Muslim.
However, Gigi was only following in the footsteps of Hillary Clinton herself, who was gracious towards Trump in her concession speech after her loss.
"We must accept this result and look toward the future," she said. "Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead."
But Gigi then confused her followers further when she tweeted a link to a change.org petition to make Hillary Clinton president. Er, back-pedaling much?
We aren't here for it.
