The 1975’s Matty Healy clarifies his salty comment about 5SOS

Ahhh K.

UPDATE: 28-06

Soooo... yesterday majority of the 5SOS fandom were under the impression that an ocean of saltiness was being thrown their way from Mr Matty Healy of The 1975.

Well, it turns out Matty totally didn't intend to offend 5SOS and has done the kind thing of clearing up what he meant.

It all started when a 5SOS fan asked Matty what the heck he was on about in that statement about Michael, Calum, Luke and Ashton being "faddy".

"Why would you say [beep!] about 5sos, they've done nothing but praise you now you look ridiculous", the fan asked, which Matty replied with, "wow I would never do that!! I think I must have been referencing their slightly younger demographic. Big love to @5SOS !!

Hmmm... K. We guess all is good in the land of rock bands then.

When it comes to boy bands, in the words of Hazza we have all the love <3 <3.

What we don't have love for, is unnecessary shade thrown. ESPECIALLY towards our Aussie boyz 5SOS.

After Ashton Irwin praised the hell out of The 1975 in May, Matty Healy has salted 5SOS so hard we feel mega dehydrated.

Ashton tweeted, "The 1975 have been so important for upcoming bands! So happy they exist, and are helping open the gateway for young bands."

Apparently though, Matty didn't get the ~memo~ and decided to tell MTV all about how great his band is compared to 5SOS.

"One of the things that I love about The 1975 is now I've realised that we're kind of this gateway band. Gateway bands used to exist, but they were normally sh*tty — you know, bands that straddled between the truly alternative scene and the mainstream market.

"A soft, easy band for the kids to transition from the Backstreet Boys to f—in' Cannibal Corpse or whatever it may be."

Ahh yes, much alternate. Very different.

He continued: "With us, of course we're gonna get a lot of kids who were into, I don't know, 5 Seconds of Summer. And then they get inside and they realise: I can stay here. I can grow with this band. This isn't a faddy thing. This isn't the Backstreet Boys. You're not being told to like us."

Also, plz refrain from shading The Backstreet Boys while you're at it. They're like boy band royalty.

#NOPE. Matty Healy fan or not we aren't about this.
