Rita Ora was supposed to perform at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards but her performance was mysteriously cancelled at the last minute – thanks to her ex-boyfriend, Calvin Harris.
Rita confirmed the news when she stopped by On Air With Ryan Seacrest.
"For anybody who doesn't understand how it works, he wrote and produced the song," the singer explained of her last-minute cancellation. "So he has to approve anything TV-wise for anybody who doesn't get it. And obviously he owns the rights to it and he didn't approve the Teen Choice Awards."
Asked whether she was shocked by the sudden canning of her performance, Rita replied, "No, nuh-uh" after revealing that she had been planning the performance for "about a month in advance."
"I could have got told a few weeks earlier, you know," she admitted. "That would have been nice. It was a last-minute change, but you know what, it happens and we move on and move forward…It is what it is, man. You know, you write a song with somebody, and I guess there's some stuff that comes with it... Everything happens for a reason, that's how I look at it."
So far, the split has been amicable. But that doesn’t mean Calvin and Rita have been able to stay out of each other’s business. Mostly because Calvin was heavily involved in the song-writing and production of Rita’s upcoming second album. Including the single I Will Never Let You Down which she was supposed to perform at the event.
A source has spilled to E! News that Calvin is hurt by how things turned out with Rita, which could explain his decision to pull the performance, as well as his cryptic social media posts.
On Saturday morning, Calvin quoted lyrics from his song "Summer" with a sad emoji face, writing, "You act so innocent now... but you lied so soon." He later also posted a memeof a dog's face with the caption, "When you start realizing s--t."
While the split seemed fairly drama-free at first, this definitely adds insult to injury. Especially given Rita has opened up about how hard the split has been on her.
Rita revealed to Glamour that she's "not doing great" since her split from the DJ earlier this year.
"It's hard to have a relationship in this business" she said.
"We both work really hard, we're both all over the place. It was a wake-up call. I'm gonna tell you the truth... I'm not doing too great. But I'm doing better than I thought".
