Selena Gomez reveals she was diagnosed with Lupus and underwent Chemotherapy

“I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”

Selena Gomez has broken her silence on the real reason she took a long break for the majority of this year, explaining that she had been diagnosed with Lupus and underwent Chemotherapy.

During a tell-all interview with Billboard Magazine, Selena opened up about her health secret she’d been keeping all year.

"I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy.’ Selena explained.

"I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke.”

For those unsure, Lupus is a condition that ‘causes various tissues in the body to become inflamed (swollen and painful)’ and attacks the immune system, as it's defined.

Thankfully, Selena is looking happy and healthy again, and with her highly anticipated album Revival about to drop, there’s no doubt that her health scare and time away from the spotlight would’ve inspired her new outlook on life.

“I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.” Sel explains about her recovery process to the magazine.

The 23-year old added that the constant scrutiny of the media has also inspired quite a few tracks.

"I'm [censored] nice to everybody, and everyone is so vile to me. I've been working since I was 7. I've been a UNICEF ambassador since I was 17. It's so disappointing that I've become a tabloid story," Selena said before adding an epic final comment, "The hate motivated me."

And before you ask, the answer is no. Justin Bieber DID NOT influence her album, with Selena adding that this one is all hers, ‘I've deserved this. I earned it. This is all me."

We’re so glad Selena is back to her healthy self again, and if we’ve learnt anything from Selena’s interview, it’s that NOTHING can stop this girl.

SLAY, Selena, SLAY.
