Snapchat’s been #KILLINGIT with its filters this week. First there was the ~mAgIcaL~ flower crown which really filed a missing piece in our hearts:
But yesterday Snappy unveiled a rather unusual filter… a Bob Marley.
(FYI, he’s a late and great music icon who sings Don’t Worry, Be Happy)
The latest Snapchat update places Bob Marley’s face on your own and while everyone loves the tunes that play in the background, the majority found it downright #racist.
While others reckon it was an unintentional stab at blackface:
While other's just really don't like it. Period.
Since the drama’s gone down, Snapchat’s had THIS to say: “The lens we launched today was created in partnership with the Bob Marley Estate, and gives people a new way to share their appreciation for Bob Marley and his music. Millions of Snapchatters have enjoyed Bob Marley’s music, and we respect his life and achievements.”
That Snap filter is still going strong, and will most likely be gone in the next 24 hours and replaced with another epic flower crown (plz.)
What do you make of all this?
