The makers of The Vampire Diaries just confirmed the worst: it’s over.
The CW Network announced that the show’s eighth season will be its last at Comic Con in California on Saturday.
If you’re not already emotional, a video made to officially announce the news and also serve as a farewell to the show will make you cry actual tears. And by that we mean ugly cry into a tub of Haagen Dazs.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you. You can watch it here.
If you’re not in an emotionally stable state right now and a farewell to The Vampire Diaries is a bit too heavy for you, the main thing you need to know is what Paul Wesley, AKA Stefan and Ian Somerhalder, AKA Damon had to say.
"Being cast in The Vampire Diaries has changed the trajectory of my life, to say the very least,” was how Paul summed it up.
Ian added, "This show has enriched my life greater than anything I’ve done in my career and it will live in my heart. We are a family and I will miss you. Thank you again to this amazing cast and crew, Kevin, Julie, Warner Bros., The CW and the most loyal fan base the world has ever seen. Wow, what a ride."
Of course, we’ve been expecting this for a while now, what with Nina Dobrev leaving the show in 2015, and then Somerhalder saying back in April the show would have "one last season" before backtracking and saying that it was just his last season and not the show.
Nice try, Ian, now we know you’re a big dirty liar.
At least we know Nina Dobrev, AKA Elena is coming back for the final season. That's something!
The eighth and last season of The Vampire Diaries (sob) airs this October on The CW.
