Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’d know that basically all that anyone is talking about RN is the heart-wrenching yet totally addictive new Netflix series ’13 Reasons Why’ – and with good reason.
The dark AF series, which was produced by Selena Gomez, takes a bold look into heavy issues like mental illness and bullying, as well as taking a realistic look at high school life – minus the cheesy stereotypes found in your average sitcom.
One person who isn’t buying into the hype, however, is singer Zara Larsson.
The ‘Never Forget You’ songstress managed to create a shiz storm of epic proportions when she tweeted (and later deleted) a simple, "13 reasons why is mehh don't @ me."
It didn't bode well for fans of the show, who urged her to finish the series before passing judgement, to which the Swede hit back,“In my opinion it romanticizes a revenge suicide and it doesn’t bring up mental illness or depression AT ALL,” she tweeted in response to a fan who told her it “literally doesn’t matter if it’s meh…the reason behind it is why it’s being talked about so much.”
The critique didn’t go down well with Selenators, who took it to mean she was throwing shade. Users then promptly proceeded to bombard Zara with criticism of their own, which forced the singer to clarify her love for Selena and Taylor before deleting every tweet on her account.
Zara’s fans then jumped to HER defense, claiming that those having a dig at the 19-year-old had missed the entire point of the show and were now being bullies themselves.
Yikes. Let’s hope the heat settles soon for poor Zara, 'cos it's totally okay to have a different opinion!
