Get ready for your daily dose of cuteness because Dubbo’s Taronga Western Plains Zoo just welcomed their first ever Asian elephant calf and released some priceless baby pics for us to swoon over (‘cause sharing is caring, yo).

If we were elephants our ovaries would defo be exploding RN.

Born this week the tiny elephant has spent the last few days hanging by its mumma, Thong Dee and pa, Gung.

“Everything went very smoothly with the birthing process," said elephant supervisor Glenn Sullivan. “Thong Dee and the calf are in good health and spending time together in the elephant barn. We have seen the calf suckling and we’re really pleased with the maternal behaviours we’re observing.”

Zoo Director, Matthew Fuller explains, “Thong Dee is doing a magnificent job and the successful birth is a tribute to the hard work of our keepers and veterinary staff.

“It’s a milestone achievement in the almost 40 year history of our zoo and we couldn’t be happier. Every birth is important as it helps to secure a future for this endangered species.”

The zoo is due to launch a competition to name the little guy very soon and we’ve already got some winners up our sleeve, including Nelly Furtado, Donald Trunk, Tuskin Hoffman and our personal favourite, Horton.

While we’re on the topic of hella cute baby elephants, this clip of one trying to flick his trunk back and forth is giving us LIFE.
