Today will go down in history as the day Mars gave the people what they’d always dreamed of: caramel M&M’S.
Honestly, how have we made it this far without a caramel version of our favourite teeny-tiny-crunchy-outer chocolate?
We’ve seen mint, peanut butter and even coconut M&M’s but until now, no caramel. Apparently, there’s a good reason for that. Mars Chocolate vice president of research and development Hank Izzo told CNN, “It was a big technological challenge for us. We never before had a M&M lentil with a true soft centre, so we had to figure out how to not make the chocolate too sticky or too soft that it could collapse.”
Makes sense, right?
The confectionery giant realise how popular this flavour is. "Caramel is extremely trendy," Izzo continued. "It's a $2.2 billion flavour segment and the fastest growing segment in food right now. We want to be part of this category."
While the new and improved caramel M&M’s are expected to hit US shelves in May 2017, we haven’t heard of an Australian release date just yet. Stay tuned…
