PSA: The name of Dylan O'Brien's 'Teen Wolf' character has finally been revealed

You may have noticed that most of the Teen Wolf characters have ordinary names, like Scott, Jackson, Lydia, Derek, etc.

All very normal!

But where the eff did ‘Stiles’ come from!?

We now have the answer!

WARNING: Spoilers ahead.

During Tuesday’s ep, Stiles’ father, Sheriff Stilinski tells the gang that Stiles isn't actually his real name!

His actual name is revealed to be Mieczyslaw Stilinski (???).

He understandably couldn’t pronounce it as a child so the closest he got was ”mischief”, which quickly became a nickname that Claudia gave him.

Still scratching your head about Stiles’ wacky real name?

Teen Wolf’s showrunner Jeff Davis has revealed his inspo for the unusual name.

“A few years ago, I knew I would have to actually reveal Stiles’s name at some point,” Davis told EW.

“I was looking for a Polish name that was incredibly difficult to both spell and pronounce. Mieczyslaw sounded like ‘mischief.’ It seemed like a perfect word to describe Stiles. Both as a mischievous child and equally misbehaved adult.”

Well, mission accomplished!

It’s hard to say if Stiles’ real, albeit unpronounceable, name will play out for the rest of the season, but it’s good to finally have an answer to the mystery!
